{"id":2785,"date":"2017-08-18T14:47:18","date_gmt":"2017-08-18T18:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mhc\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=2785"},"modified":"2019-04-19T08:29:52","modified_gmt":"2019-04-19T12:29:52","slug":"framing-maine-bill-green","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/mhc\/event\/framing-maine-bill-green\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Framing Maine&#8221; featuring Bill Green*"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kids, Don\u2019t Take my Advice: 45 Years of Braggin\u2019 About Maine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Maine Studies Program is proud to host an event on November 9th featuring noted television host and reporter\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlbz2.com\/about-us\/team-bios\/bill-green\/32594835\">Bill Green<\/a>, a University of Maine alumnus.\u00a0The title of Bill\u2019s talk is \u201cKids, Don\u2019t Take my Advice: 45 Years of Braggin\u2019 About Maine\u201d\u2014a play on his line, \u201cKids, don\u2019t go braggin\u2019 just \u2019cause you\u2019re from Maine,\u201d with which he ends his popular show\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wcsh6.com\/local\/bill-greens-maine\"><em>Bill Green\u2019s Maine<\/em><\/a>\u00a0every Saturday evening.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-935\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/umaine.edu\/mainestudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/174\/2011\/01\/Bill-posing-reduced.jpg?resize=450%2C563&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following his presentation, Bill will be interviewed onstage by noted NPR Washington correspondent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/people\/2100941\/brian-naylor\">Brian Naylor<\/a>, another University of Maine graduate who knew Bill when they were both at Orono. Brian will ask Bill about his 45-year career as a television reporter in Maine, and his passion for the people, places and stories that inspire his work as a news reporter and show creator and host.<\/p>\n<p>Bill will also be honored at the event by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umainealumni.com\/\">UMaine Alumni Association<\/a>, which will present him with their Black Bear Award. This award is given annually to alumni in \u201cappreciation of outstanding service through continuous, outstanding advocacy for the University of Maine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collinscenterforthearts.com\/\">Collins Center for the Arts<\/a>\u00a0on the UMaine campus.<\/p>\n<p>A <em><strong>pre-talk reception<\/strong><\/em> will begin at <strong>5:30 pm<\/strong> in Miller\u2019s Cafe of the CCA (<strong><em>tickets are $50<\/em><\/strong> and support Maine-related programs and studies).<\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>talk<\/strong><\/em>, which is <em><strong>free and open to the public,<\/strong><\/em> will begin at <strong>6:30 pm<\/strong> in the Minsky Recital Hall, Class of 1944 Building, which is connected to the Collins Center.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tickets for both events are required<\/strong><\/em> and available at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collinscenterforthearts.com\/events\/\">Collins Center for the Arts website<\/a>, in person at their box office, or by phone at 207-581-1755. Tickets to the pre-talk fundraising reception with Bill Green and Brian Naylor are limited in supply and must be purchased by Friday, November 3rd.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first talk in a series called\u00a0<em>Framing Maine: Conversations with Storytellers and Imagemakers from the Pine Tree State.<\/em>\u00a0The series will highlight notable Mainers who tell the state\u2019s stories through various media, including literature, art, music, print and digital media, and other forms. The next speaker in the series, scheduled for April 3rd, will be Dave Mallett, nationally known folk singer and songwriter (who is also a UMaine graduate).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFraming Maine: A Conversation with Bill Green\u201d is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Affairs\/Distinguished Lecture Series Fund.
