This year\u2019s recipients were:<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15\"]{font-style:normal;}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15 mark.kt-highlight, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15\"] mark.kt-highlight{font-style:normal;color:#f76a0c;-webkit-box-decoration-break:clone;box-decoration-break:clone;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15 img.kb-inline-image, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15\"] img.kb-inline-image{width:150px;vertical-align:baseline;}<\/style>\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading9063_cd24ee-15\"><strong>Don Beith\u00a0<\/strong>(Associate Professor of Philosophy)\u00a0<strong>and Susan Bredlau<\/strong>\u00a0(Assistant Professor of Philosophy) were awarded an\u00a0MHC\u00a0faculty grant to host the 49th annual meeting of the International Merleau-Ponty Circle at the University of Maine in September 2025. The International Merleau-Ponty Cirlcle is a prestigious international society specializing in applying Maurice Merleau-Ponty&#8217;s philosophy to contemporary issues. Beith and Bredlau will use\u00a0MHC\u00a0funding to support the\u00a0conference and its 2025 theme: &#8220;Health and Healing: Personal, Social and Environmental.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Rebecca Dewan<\/strong>, Libra Assistant Professor of Choral\/General Music Education, was awarded an\u00a0MHC\u00a0faculty grant to\u00a0present &#8220;Considering Matthew Shepherd&#8221; with the University Singers and Maine Gay Men&#8217;s Chorus. Dewan will use\u00a0MHC\u00a0funds to\u00a0work\u00a0with the UMaine School of Performing Arts and the Maine Gay Men\u2019s Chorus\u00a0to present the Maine premiere of Craig Hella Johnson\u2019s \u201cConsidering Matthew Shepard,\u201d a choral work that addresses themes of love, loss, and social justice through the lens of the tragic murder of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard near Laramie, WY, in 1998.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Robby Finley<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, received an\u00a0MHC\u00a0faculty grant to support travel to present two related projects that examine\u00a0how applications of logic to reasoning and the gamification of reasoning can provide a fruitful frame of analysis for classic philosophical problems. Finley will present \u201cThe Value Capture Argument for Logical Pluralism&#8221; at The First Paris-Chicago Joint Conference in the Philosophy of Logic and Mathematics\u00a0and \u201cLogic as Game: Wittgenstein, Suits, and the Concept of \u2018Game\u2019\u201d at The 52nd Annual Meeting of the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Sarah Harlan-Haughey<\/strong>, Professor of English, was awarded an\u00a0MHC\u00a0faculty grant for travel to Areley Kings and the Severn Valley in England for work toward the completion of their second book project. Harlan-Haughey will ubicate their study\u00a0in the specific landscape in which the poet Layamon would have been working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Susan Pinette<\/strong>, Professor of Modern Languages and Director of Franco-American Center, was awarded an\u00a0MHC\u00a0faculty grant for the project Digitizing Peter Archambault&#8217;s &#8220;Beau-frog&#8221; drawings. This grant will complement an NEH Humanities References and Resources Grant received by UM Franco American Programs to digitize many of Peter Archambault&#8217;s iconic 1970s\/980s political cartoons including\u00a0nearly 500 oversize drawings that\u00a0require special attention.
