The Personal is Poetic

Our MHC Fellow Kim Crowley organized a panel discussion around her fellowship project, “The Personal is Poetic.” She invited professors Jennifer Moxley and Danielle Pafunda to participate on a discussion of the therapeutic usages of poetry.

From Kim:

“‘Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.’ ― Robert Frost. For centuries, poets have espoused the therapeutic values of poetry. The discipline of poetry therapy grew from this intuitive initial awareness of the medium’s potential healing power.
The point of ‘The Personal is Poetic’ panel event was to dive deep into the history and foundations of poetry therapy, its models, and its modern usages. Each panelist provided their own perspectives and experiences on the idea of poetry as a therapeutic tool.”
