Developing Socially Just Communities

Are you interested in exploring your own identity while engaging in dialogue about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion? Spend 3 days with incoming first-year students at UMaine’s 4H Learning Center where you will meet new friends, develop leadership skills, connect with cultural history in the area, and delve into discussions on how to create a more socially responsible and inclusive community. Our base camp is the University of Maine’s 4-H Camp & Learning Center at Blueberry Cove nestled in Tenants Harbor. On Thursday you will spend the morning exploring the harbor, then return to camp early in the afternoon for group discussions on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, followed by supper. All transportation, gear, food, and instruction are included.

Trip Itinerary:

  • Wednesday, August 24: 
  • 10:00 am-12:00 pm Drop off your belongings at your residence hall.
  • 12:00 pm meet your group at the New Balance Recreation Center and depart for the Blueberry Cove 4H Learning Center. 

Thursday, August 25: Engage in discussions about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion while exploring leadership through team building and outdoor activities.

Friday, August 26: Participate in one final morning activity and return to UMaine by 3:00 pm, just in time for MaineHello!

Accommodations:

You will stay in cabins at the Blueberry Cove 4H Learning Center.
