Introduction to the Maine Family Partnership
April 2015 |
Family FocusIn the spring of 2014 MAIER joined with a small group of dedicated parents to launch the Maine Family Partnership. Over the spring and summer the group met several times to brainstorm goals and projects for the group. So far, the Maine Family Partnership (MFP) has hosted two fun and informative family events in partnership with the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor and launched a major project to develop a “roadmap” to assist Maine families in accessing educational and social services, and building a community of support. See the accompanying article to read about our March 22nd “My Day to Play” Safety event at the Museum, which hosted Matt Brown of Autism Safety Education and Training (ASET), and visits from local firemen, a policeman, and therapy dogs. On April 26th MFP families will be walking together in the annual fundraising event for the Autism Society of Maine, “Walk for Autism” in Bangor. To join our team, or contribute, visit the Autism Society of Maine website and look for the “Maine Autism Institute Family Partnership Team.” Be sure to let us know if you join the team by sending us an email or giving us a call. We hope to see you there! We look forward to seeing the MFP grow, so we invite all interested family members, caregivers and individuals with ASD to join us. Once you are on our mailing list, you will receive news, event announcements and other items of interest to families. Be sure to send us your news as well, and let us know about your issues of concern and your ideas for projects or events. Contact Donna Doherty by email (donna.doherty@maine.edu) or phone (207-581-2468) for more information about joining, or visit our website. Hope to hear from you! Donna Doherty |
