SUMMARY:Climate Change and Plants: Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Oxford County\, The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead is proud to be hosting a panel discussion on the topic of Climate Change and Plants. Join us at the Garden for a moderated\, public discussion among experts in the fields of horticulture\, agriculture\, ecology\, forestry\, and climatology. \nThe changing climate is a topic of concern for many people\, and understandably so. Over the course of this discussion\, we aim to address these concerns and provide realistic\, plant-based solutions that individuals and communities can utilize in adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change. Each of our expert panelists will give context to the discussion by sharing their experiences with climate change through the lens of their own professions. The ethics and viability of assisted migration\, the future forest communities of Maine\, and climate-conscious agricultural practices are just a few of the talking points we will cover. \nOur Panelists for this event are: \nHannah Mullally—Partners for Fish and Wildlife Biologist\, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service \nRebecca Long —Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture Professional\, UMaine Cooperative Extension \nSean Birkel—Assistant Extension Professor\, Maine State Climatologist\, Climate Change Institute and UMaine Cooperative Extension \nSean Horan—Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Professional\, Natural Resources Conservation Service & UMaine Cooperative Extension \nAndrew Tufts—Maine Audubon \nFolks who cannot attend the panel discussion in person will be able to watch via Zoom. \nRegister for the panel discussion HERE. \n– \nWhile not an organization affiliated with the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station\, we seek to support and promote agriculture across Maine.
