Lobster Institute Graduate Research Fellowship Application Form

The Lobster Institute has a Graduate Research Fellowship available for Fall 2022, supported by UMaine’s College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture.

The one-year graduate research fellowship includes a stipend, tuition, and 50% health insurance for a student researching any aspect of the American lobster fishery or the communities that depend on it. The prospective student must be either already enrolled in or recently accepted by the admissions committee of any unit within UMaine’s College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture. Advising faculty are expected to supply at least one year of matching support for the student. The advisor will be or become an affiliated faculty member of UMaine’s Lobster Institute. Both advisor and student will also be expected to participate in associated outreach activities complementary to their research.

Financial terms:

  • Stipend:  $21,333
  • Tuition:  up to 19 credits
  • Health Insurance:  50% of the basic student plan.

 

Advising faculty are asked to submit:

(1) Name of the prospective student,

(2) Student’s enrollment status (enrolled or entering)

(3) Brief project description (not to exceed 500 words), including a statement of the student’s involvement in research and outreach activity.

(4) Sources of additional support beyond one year. State whether these sources are secured or pending. 

 

Application deadline February 28, 2022.  Decision by the second week of March.
