Named Gift Opportunities

In addition to gifts and bequests to the Lobster Institute Endowment Fund or Lobster Institute Director’s Fund, donors may attach their name to or memorialize someone through a named fund. All those who support the Lobster Institute’s C.O.R.E. Campaign with a named gift will be listed on a special recognition plaque to be displayed at the offices of the Lobster Institute. Naming opportunities through gifts and bequests, are available for the following funds at the stated levels. Please contact us for more information on providing a named gift.

  • The John Doe Lobster Stock Assessment Initiative – funding a research initiative, at the doctoral level, in lobster stock assessment
  • The John Doe Lobster Institute First Response Fund for Lobster Health – devoted to doctoral level work on topical lobster health and environmental monitoring issues

  • The John Doe Fellowship in Lobster Health – a fund to support the John Doe Fellow, a post-doctoral position working under the Lobster Institute First Response Fund for Lobster Health
  • The John Doe Lobster Institute Senior Associate – a significant position within the Institute, responsible for communications, outreach and development efforts
  • The John Doe Fellowship in Lobster Product Development – to support a John Doe Fellow, a graduate assistant working on new product development or value-added products related to the lobster industry

  • The John Doe Lobster Institute Associate – a key position within the Institute, handling special projects and budgetary duties.
  • The Jane Smith Medallion Echelon Fund for Lobster Stock Assessment – to support the work of the John Doe Lobster Stock Initiative
  • The Jane Smith Medallion Echelon Fund for Lobster Health – to support the work of the John Doe Fellow in Lobster Health and other lobster health research initiatives of the Lobster Institute

The Lobster Institute’s endowed funds are established within the University of Maine Foundation. The Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 organization which serves as the fiscal sponsor and fund manager for the Friends of the Lobster Institute. Established in 1934, the Foundation exists to encourage gifts and bequests to elevate intellectual pursuits at the University of Maine.
