Look for the label

Learfield Licensing requires all licensees to affix a CLP hangtag or label to each product. This helps us to guard against counterfeit merchandise and assure the consumers that the products they purchase are officially licensed. Financial support
When you purchase a UMaine product with the “Collegiate Licensed Product” label, hang tag, or hologram, a portion of your purchase price is returned back to the University. Just by looking for the label when you purchase swag, you are helping support UMaine.

Trademark protection
The logos that represent the University of Maine are property of the University. UMaine wants to ensure that our logos are cared for properly, and use of these trademarks without the permission of the University is illegal. The “Collegiate Licensed Product” label, hang tag, or hologram signifies that the University has granted the manufacturer the right to use its trademarks. Otherwise, the merchandise may be counterfeit.

Quality assurance
The “Collegiate Licensed Product” label, hang tag, or hologram not only signifies that the manufacturer has been given permission to use the trademarks of UMaine, but also that the merchandise has passed the strict standards set forth by the University.
