Department of Mathematics & Statistics 4+1 and 4+2 BA/MA Programs

In conjunction with the UMaine Graduate School, the Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers the opportunity for ambitious mathematics majors to begin taking graduate courses during their senior year, with the possibility of double-counting these credits toward the BA and the MA. The BA/MA program is designed to prepare math students in teaching or industry, with many students continuing into PhD programs.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers both a non-thesis MA option (4+1) and a thesis MA option (4+2). When applying, students must select one of the options but may switch between the 4+1 and 4+2 options at any time with approval of the Graduate Coordinator.

Interested undergraduates should apply by February 1 of their junior year and all application materials will be submitted directly to the Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.
