My name is Sylvia Brownlow.\u00a0And I am from northern\u00a0Vermont, the Derby area,\u00a0but I went to Lake Region Union High School,\u00a0and I&#8217;m currently a\u00a0mechanical engineering major\u00a0at Northeastern at their Boston campus.\u00a0And being in JSHS\u00a0was so amazing and getting to participate.\u00a0And I placed fourth,\u00a0which meant that I got to go to\u00a0the national competition in New Mexico and be\u00a0a part of all of\u00a0the posters and then also\u00a0go watch all the presentations.\u00a0And it was so amazing to be\u00a0with our little Northern New England group\u00a0because we got so close with each\u00a0other and we just hung out all the time.\u00a0And it was so amazing to be in\u00a0such a welcoming community where everybody\u00a0loved STEM and cared about\u00a0STEM and just wanted to talk\u00a0about STEM because my school that I came from\u00a0Lake Region isn&#8217;t super big\u00a0and there&#8217;s not a lot of kids\u00a0who are interested in that kind of thing.\u00a0I think there was one other girl who\u00a0competed in any science fairs\u00a0at all in my school with me last year.\u00a0So that was really eye opening to\u00a0be able to be in one place with\u00a0so many kids from all over the country\u00a0where everyone just had\u00a0a passion for science,\u00a0technology,\u00a0engineering, math, like, all of it.\u00a0And just to see\u00a0all those groups come together.\u00a0It was really, really life changing,\u00a0and it also helped me\u00a0in planning for my future\u00a0and what I wanted to do,\u00a0what college I wanted to go with.\u00a0And then also in\u00a0terms of what I wanted to do with my future\u00a0after college and my career\u00a0and being able to be at the symposium\u00a0and go to all of the conferences and\u00a0little outbreak meetings where\u00a0people gave you information.\u00a0That&#8217;s not something that my school\u00a0was particularly good about.\u00a0So that was also really fun and really cool.\u00a0And I hope that everybody wants to do\u00a0JSHS because it was\u00a0really life changing for\u00a0me being from a small area,\u00a0a small rural area to see\u00a0so many people with\u00a0a love of science and a love of STEM.\u00a0So please do JSHS.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.wp-block-kadence-spacer.kt-block-spacer-215_c86e65-e1 .kt-block-spacer{height:60px;}.wp-block-kadence-spacer.kt-block-spacer-215_c86e65-e1 .kt-divider{border-top-width:1px;height:1px;border-top-color:#eee;width:80%;border-top-style:solid;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-spacer aligncenter kt-block-spacer-215_c86e65-e1\"><div class=\"kt-block-spacer kt-block-spacer-halign-center\"><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello.
