With a superb subtropical climate, a mixture of natural wonders and a vibrant city life, our region has a lifestyle that promotes innovation and education: an ideal setting for a dynamic, progressive institution such as Griffith University.
The landscapes of the northern part of Australia, with a tropical climate, consist of rainforest, woodland, grassland, mangrove swamps and desert. There is a temperate in the south-east and southwest areas, which allow Australia to remain overall, pretty dry throughout the year. The “Outback” is perhaps best known for its kangaroos, koalas, dingoes, and wombats, among many other endemic species of both flora and fauna. Its coastline inhabits the world’s largest coral reef, The Great Barrier Reef, an ideal location for snorkeling and diving. Although Canberra is the capital, Sidney has the greatest population.
Australia has an active tradition of music, ballet and theater with a symphony orchestra in each capital city. There is boating on the shorelines, and competitive sports such as cricket, hockey, rugby, and soccer all over the country. A common theme in Australian art and literature has been the Australian landscape that began with a long history of visual arts that started with the cave and bark paintings of its indigenous people. Australia offers a wide range of both entertainment and relaxation throughout all parts of their culture.
Brisbane, home to 1.8 million people, offers all the social, cultural and recreational facilities you would expect of a capital city, in a beautiful riverside setting. Logan is home to people from more than 160 different cultures. With more than 50 per cent of residents aged 30 years or younger, it celebrates both youth and diversity in a rich and varied lifestyle. Gold Coast is Australia’s holiday capital, with amazing theme parks, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and some of the best beaches and surf breaks on earth.
Gold Coast: The Gold Coast campus is dynamic and modern. It is spread over 65 acres of native bush land, less than an hour from Brisbane and about a 30-minute bus ride from the coast. Logan: This is the newest of Griffith’s campuses and is considered its community campus. Buses link it to the nearby railway station and the campus is a five-minute drive to major shopping complexes. Mt. Gravatt (Brisbane): The Mt. Gravatt campus is nestled in the animal reserve of Toohey Forest. It’s less than 15 minutes by bus from the center of Brisbane and “across the road” from the Nathan campus. Nathan: The Nathan campus, the original Griffith University site, is set in 430 acres of bushland and is a 10 to 15-minute drive from Brisbane. South Bank (Brisbane): At the southern end of the South Bank Parklands, across the river from Brisbane’s city center are Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art and the Griffith Film School.

Studying abroad in Australia was something that I’ve wanted to do since my freshman year of college. I’m so glad I was able to do it because it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Not only was I able to become more independent, I was able to learn so much about myself and meet so many people from all over the world. I also had the opportunity to travel to many different places including Fiji, New Zealand and all over Australia. I would definitely recommend studying abroad to anyone who can!
~ Jenna Conley, Accounting major
I grew so much from studying abroad. I was able to become more independent, and find the direction that I would like to go the rest of my life. It was absolutely the most rewarding experience in my college career.
The flats on the Nathan campus are very nice and convenient. I lived with 6 Australian, and 1 other international student, and it was a great combination. The Nathan campus is about a 15 minute bus ride from downtown Brisbane, so if you were planning on going out on a weekend you can usually take a bus there, but would have to take a cab back, which would cost about $40. For all international students Griffith housing provides a bag with sheets, towels and blankets which cost around $80.
