TrustedRentr, a graduate of the Foster Center for Innovation, has officially launched its service in Maine and is now accepting both landlords and tenants onto a platform that is designed to streamline the residential leasing process for all parties.

“TrustedRentr is excited to announce the official launch of our service and very excited to do so in Maine,” said company co-founder, CEO and managing partner John Peters (‘16). “We’re bringing innovative solutions to resolve difficult problems in the rental industry, and we believe the state of Maine is a great place to validate the benefits of our time- and money-saving software that is designed to benefit landlords and tenants alike.”

For tenants, TrustedRentr offers a platform to consolidate all the paperwork needed to apply for an apartment, from credit and background checks to rental history. The service allows landlords to easily evaluate prospective tenants. Once a lease is signed, tenants can pay rent through the service, allowing them to build credit history with each payment.

“We wanted to create a community where those tenant-landlord relationships can build on one another,” said managing partner and co-founder Steve Doman (‘16, ‘21G).

To grow the company from an idea to a functional platform, Peters and Doman took advantage of programs, resources and connections through the Foster Center, including participating in I-Corps and Top Gun. They were finalists in the 2019 Greenlight Maine Collegiate Challenge and received early funding from the Libra Future Fund and Maine Technology Institute. In 2022, they plan to expand TrustedRentr to markets outside of Maine.
