National Academy of Sciences\u2019 Keck Award for best\u00a0book of the year and 1493; Uncovering the World That Columbus Created, a New\u00a0York Times bestseller. 1491 combines science, history, and archaeology to radically\u00a0transform our understanding of the Americas before European contact. 1493 looks\u00a0at the aftermath of exchange\u2014plants, animals and microbes\u2014and the impact of\u00a0contact on Europe, China and Africa.
