They will also explore how the environment,&nbsp;natural resources, and cultural preferences impact the types of houses cultures create. Figure out who lives in a wigwam, yurt, igloo, stilt house, or a house made from adobe bricks\u2013and why. Match forms of transportation with how they are powered. Explore plants and animals from around the world, figure out where they came from and how they have been integrated into our diet. Try your hand at using masks to tell a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wabanaki Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn about the material culture of Maine\u2019s four tribes, focusing on basketry, birchbark work, decorative and carving traditions.&nbsp; Your program may include traditional Penobscot legends or interviews with Wabanaki basketmakers, carvers, birchbark and beadwork artists.&nbsp; Activities for this tour are age-appropriate and allow students to try their hand at playing Waltes, a traditional bowl game, making a \u201cbirchbark\u201d container or a Northeastern decorative bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Native American Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This program focuses on the Native Peoples of Maine, the Southwest, the Northwest Coast and the Arctic. Learn about the environments in which they live, their way of life through the objects that they make, and traditional artforms and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mesoamerican Civilizations Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn about the civilizations\u2013Olmec to Aztec\u2013of Mesoamerica through artifacts from the Hudson Museum\u2019s collection. This program is geared to middle school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wabanaki Native Voices Videos Online<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>New Web-based Educational Resources to support the teaching of Wabanaki History and Culture. The video segments that are featured in the Wabanaki Gallery\u2019s Native Voices kiosks are available for <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/primary-sources\/\">use in your classroom now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Booking a Tour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To book a tour at the Hudson Museum, please fill out the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/request-a-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online form<\/a> or download the <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/resource\/tour-request-form\/\">Tour Request Form (PDF)<\/a> and contact Ben Whitaker at 581-1906 or by email at <a href=\"mailto:benjamin.whitaker@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">benjamin.whitaker@maine.edu<\/a> at least two weeks prior to the desired tour date to ensure convenience of scheduling.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group Sizes and Fees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum group size is 10. Maximum tour group size for individual tours is 20 however, we can accommodate group sizes up to 60 students at a time. There is a charge of $3 per student. School groups should be accompanied by at least one adult (admitted free) for every 10 students. For accommodations for persons with disabilities, please call: 207.581.1904. For information about how the Hudson Museum supports teaching Wabanaki history and culture in the classroom, visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/hudsonmuseum\/wabanaki-study-unit\/\">Wabanaki Study Unit<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We welcome home-school groups at the Hudson Museum.&nbsp; We require a minimum of 10 students ages 5 years old and up. If you are bringing children younger than 5 years old, we are happy to provide an alternative activity (i.e. children\u2019s books and coloring), while the program is taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We offer Tours Monday through Friday (excluding Holidays) between 9 and 3. Cross the river, then bear right onto Park Street. Continue .5 miles and take the Rangeley Road exit from the traffic circle onto the University of Maine campus.
