The Penobscot people are native to the Penobscot River and Penobscot Bay area. The Penobscot, along with the Passamaquoddy, Maliseet and Mi\u2019kmaq are often referred to as the Wabanaki or People of the Dawn.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color 400\">Sweetgrass grows in marshy areas and is native to Greenland, Iceland, Canada, northern Eurasia, and some parts of the United States. It can be identified by its long, thin leaves and sweet smell.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eff378b4a19ffd4f1f823a36e503efc6\" style=\"color:#0c598e\">How was sweetgrass used?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sweetgrass is a sacred plant, used by Native Americans in healing rituals and medicines. style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once the sweetgrass is dried, it would then be soaked.&nbsp; After soaking, the sweetgrass was braided into a long thin cord, and then woven into baskets.&nbsp; It could
