SUMMARY:Re-Indigenizing Sacred Landscapes: From the Wigwam at Cetawamkeag
DESCRIPTION:Re-Indigenizing Sacred Landscapes: From the Wigwam at Cetawamkeag is an upcoming exhibition at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland\, ME. \nThis collection reinstallation project revisits paintings by pioneering artists who ventured to and depicted Maine between the late 18th and early 20th centuries. While the painters captured the region’s stunning landscapes\, they often overlooked the Native American communities living there. Guest curated by James Francis\, Penobscot Nation’s Director of Cultural and Historic Preservation\, Tribal Historian\, and Chair of Penobscot Tribal Rights\, Donald Soctomah\, Tribal historic preservation officer for the Passamaquoddy Tribe\, Gretchen Faulkner\, Hudson Museum Executive Director\, Curatorial Advisor\, the exhibition reexamines works in the Farnsworth’s collection. \nImage Credits: \nFitz Henry Lane (1804-1865)\nPretty Marsh\, Mt.
