{"id":1925,"date":"2020-12-24T14:01:09","date_gmt":"2020-12-24T19:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/gsg\/?page_id=1925"},"modified":"2024-02-19T11:29:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T16:29:38","slug":"dan-sandweiss-graduate-student-advocacy-award","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/gsg\/dan-sandweiss-graduate-student-advocacy-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Dan Sandweiss Graduate Student Advocacy Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Introduction:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Dan Sandweiss Graduate Student Advocacy Award is given annually to <\/span><b>one graduate student<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>one non-student member of the University of Maine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> who go above and beyond to create personal and professional development opportunities for graduate students, who offer time and assistance in advocating for individual graduate student needs as well as the needs of the collective student body, and who focus on the advancement of graduate students during their time at UMaine and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Nomination:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The criteria for a nominee of this award are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goes above and beyond to create personal and professional development opportunities for graduate students.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Offers time and assistance to meeting individual graduate student needs as well as the needs of the collective student body.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Puts student success while at UMaine as a top priority.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Focuses on career advancement as a graduate student and beyond UMaine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Dan Sandweiss Graduate Student Advocacy Award is an opportunity to recognize two individuals who make the graduate experience whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Current graduate students and non-student members of the University of Maine are eligible for nomination of this award. To be considered for the award, applicants must complete the application form and provide an advocacy statement. A nomination form from your mentee is also required for this application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please make sure that your advocacy impact statement is uploaded as a PDF. Your statement shall follow the following guidelines<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">12-point font size; Times New Roman<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A minimum word limit of 250 and a maximum word limit of 500<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The paragraph shall be single-spaced or double spaced<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your full name, date, and the award you are applying to must be present on the page header<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The PDF to be uploaded should be named as follows: FirstName_LastName_AwardName<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>To apply,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> please complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/EPfe321R5kG6uiw1A\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this application form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and your nominator must complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/AKRPUG1q6QCDyqYQ8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the nomination form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Selection process:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Graduate Student Government Awards Committee will be responsible for the selection of the graduate student recipient. The GSG Senate will be decide the non-student UMaine recipient. The selected nominees will then be approved by the Graduate School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your advocacy statement and the nomination letter shall entirely be utilized to appraise your application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Awards:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>$100 and a certificate<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The awardees will be notified after selection and the awards will be presented during The University of Maine Graduate Student Government Spring Formal, on April 20th, 2024 at the Innovative Media Research and Commercialization Center<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Deadline&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The application form will close on Friday, March 29th, 2024, at 5:00 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions please reach out to <\/span><a href=\"mailto:gsg@maine.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gsg@maine.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction:&nbsp;
