Federal health insurance requirements for the college-age population dictates that all graduate students enrolled in 6 credit hours or more are required to be enrolled in or show proof of adequate health insurance coverage.

Graduate Assistant Health Insurance (Domestic)

Graduate Assistant Health Insurance is mandatory for all graduate, teaching, research assistants and fellows working 20 hours a week and earning a minimum monthly stipend of $1733.33, unless proof of comparable insurance is provided. Graduate Assistants are not eligible for the SHIP plan.

Eligible students with adequate health insurance must complete an online waiver process to opt out of the plan before October 1, 2018. Graduate assistants who need to enroll should complete the enrollment online as soon as possible.

To opt out after the deadline, submit a GA manual waiver form to the Bursar’s office.  Please note that the approval is upon the discretion of the insurance company.

*Domestic graduate assistants can only waive or enroll once the Graduate School has processed the appointment form.

International Student Insurance

International Student Health Insurance is mandatory for all international students, unless proof of insurance is provided. International students are not eligible for the SHIP plan.

  • Cost of coverage: $2,845
