Graduate Options for Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Majors

As a UMaine Parks, Recreation, and Tourism major, you have an advantage when applying to attend graduate school at UMaine. Not only will your application process be streamlined, you can start taking graduate classes in your Junior year, thanks to the UMaine Plus Program!

UMaine Plus Options

Master of Forestry – The 4+1 Master of Forestry Degree allows academically strong students to enroll in up to 9 credits of MF coursework during their senior year, which would then count toward both the BS and MF degree requirements (assuming a grade of B or higher). Following graduation with the BS, students would complete the MF degree with 21 more graduate-level credits, normally within a 15-month period.  Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Maine MBA – This condensed one-year program provide students with essential business knowledge in accounting, finance, marketing, and management, as well as to advance skills in leadership, critical thinking and analysis, and global engagement. Apply by the second semester of your Junior year. Minimum 3.20 GPA required.

MS Spatial Informatics – This online program can be started in the undergraduate Junior year. Students build on foundations in computer science, mathematics, physics, geography, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, engineering and related fields to study spatio-temporal phenomena and design intelligent spatial information systems. Apply by the first semester of your Junior year. Minimum 3.25 GPA required.

MS Information Systems – This online or live program can be started in the undergraduate Junior year. It focuses on technical, managerial and policy issues associated with constructing and managing computer-based information systems for modern organizations. Apply by the first semester of your Junior year. Minimum 3.25 GPA required.

Traditional Postbaccalaureate Options

MA Communications – The MA in Communications offers tracks in Communication and Mass Communication, combining historical and contemporary theories with research skills necessary to explore and contribute to knowledge; and the ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom in public and private organizations.

MA in Global Policy – A degree in Global Policy is an international service degree with concentrations in Environmental Policy, Trade & Commerce, and Security & Foreign Policy. The interdisciplinary curriculum consists of a wide array of thematic and geographical courses, which allows students to cultivate an independent approach to political, social, economic, and environmental issues from a variety of perspectives
