Using Group Work Effectively to Promote Student Learning
September 18 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Group work is a common teaching strategy used across disciplines and modalities that can be very effective. Students using peer instruction during group work can solidify their understanding, practice transfer of skills, and gain awareness of their own knowledge – all of which benefit learning. Working with groups effectively will often need specific guidelines and structure to promote positive outcomes and avoid common pitfalls. In this workshop, we will explore several types of group work, identify ways to build positive interdependence into group assignments, and brainstorm solutions to common pitfalls.
