TITLE: Flagship Internship Coordinator

POSITION TYPE: Temporary, part-time, March 5, 2018 – July 27, 2018


The Internship Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the 2018 Flagship Internship Program. These responsibilities include: working with UMaine students to prepare them for the application process, corresponding with participating employers to assist them with the application process, working with other Flagship Internship partners to plan and implement the Bootcamp portion of the program, plan and implement networking events, follow progress of the Flagship interns to assist them with earning competency badges with the Engaged Black Bear Program.


  • Administrative: Provide assistance to students who have applied to the Flagship Program. This could include answering questions about the application process and assisting students with the process of finding an appropriate internship, as well as coordinating application readings, sending out acceptance or denial letters. Meet with students individually to have them sign the Flagship Internship Program contract as well as fill out information sheets. Provide employers with assistance applying to the Flagship Internship Program. This could include answering questions, vetting employers for compatibility with the program and performing outreach to prospective employers. Manage administrative aspects of the program, including sharing all materials in the appropriate Google drive, tracking student applications, tracking employer applications, filling out appropriate spreadsheets and keeping other members of the program apprised.
  • Flagship Internship Bootcamp: Coordinate the Flagship Internship Bootcamp in conjunction with the Foster Center for Student Innovation. This includes updating the current curriculum, reaching out to prospective panelists/presenters, organizing housing and working with the Foster Center staff to coordinate meals.Participate in the Flagship Internship Bootcamp experience by being present for all presentations, trips and meals.
  • Events: Plan and implement 2 Flagship Internship Networking events by working with program sponsors. Plan, coordinate and implement the Flagship Internship Showcase event, including correspondence with catering, conference services, participants and stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Serve as primary point of contact for students participating in the program. This includes being available to students on internship sites via phone, email and by visiting each intern at their site over the course of their experience. Work with students to address any concerns or issues they may be having at their site. Serve as a primary point of contact for interns’ supervisors; connect with supervisors during site visits to discuss progress of students, work with supervisors to address any issues that may arise during their experience.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent years of work experience. Evidence of strong writing and public speaking skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, marketing and organizational skills.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/DYNAMICS: Job is performed in an office or elsewhere on the University of Maine campus. Direct contact with students, employers, alumni, faculty and other staff. Juggling many projects and dealing with shifting priorities as dictated by the program are also inherent in this job.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including travel and work outside of normal hours to include evenings in order to meet the requirements of the position. The employee shall establish regular office hours and in consultation with the supervisor, adjust the work schedule as appropriate.

WORK YEAR: Fixed length, part-time. 10 hours per week from March 5 until July 27 (20 weeks). During week of internship bootcamp (May 14 – 17), approximately 50 hours, plus overnight travel will be required.

SALARY: $800 per month (March, April, June and July) and $1800 for the month of May.
