4-H Girls and Their Educators from Aroostook County

Since 2009 UMaine’s College of Engineering and UMaine Cooperative Extension hosted as many as 100 young high school and middle school girls from Maine 4-H clubs in four Maine counties.  This is the first time that GEM is involved in inviting the elementary school age girls.  There will be about 10 4-H girls and 2 leaders coming to UMaine engineering for a day from the Portland area 4-H clubs.  This is part of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day during the Engineering Week of Feb 20-25.

Girls will be working on hands on projects of designing an offshore wind turbine floater in the AEWC Wood Composite Center.  They will also be making slime and checking out the laser in the Chemical and Bioengineering lab. Their lunch will be at the Food Court of the Memorial Student Union where they will get to experience fun in a college life.
