and be it further<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved<\/em>,\u202fThat the administration be requested to engage faculty governance bodies and student representatives prior to implementation of any new AI-related student fee; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved<\/em>,\u202fThat&nbsp;any evaluation include clear justification of educational benefit, disciplinary applicability, cost transparency, and&nbsp;anticipated&nbsp;student use; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved<\/em>,\u202fThat&nbsp;ethical, legal, data privacy, and intellectual property guidelines be&nbsp;established&nbsp;and communicated prior to adoption of institution-wide AI tools funded through student fees; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved<\/em>,\u202fThat&nbsp;consideration be given to alternative or hybrid funding models, including pilot testing or institutionally supported innovation funding, before adopting a permanent per-credit-hour fee structure; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved,<\/em>\u202fThat the administration be requested to negotiate or require contractual language with the Ally vendor, and future vendors for similar tools, that explicitly prohibits redistribution, reuse, or external retention of faculty instructional materials beyond fee-for-service accessibility functions; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved,<\/em>\u202fThat&nbsp;faculty be provided with transparent options, including the ability to opt out or limit Ally functionality, or similar tools for Title II compliance, without jeopardizing Title II compliance; and be it further&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Resolved,<\/em>\u202fThat the administration report back to faculty governance bodies&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;contractual safeguards, compliance pathways, and available alternative tools that ensure accessibility while protecting faculty intellectual property.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umainesystem.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/s\/UM-FacultySenate\/IQB5NZfX7c2QQo1ckHQ93T4tAcul8n3r5XoKE2GPvMxLPBc?e=zbPDj8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The full text of SM 2606 with the preamble is available at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SM 2607<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submitted by<\/strong>: Research and Scholarship Committee<br><strong>Title<\/strong>: Motion to Request Administrative Guidance and Fiscal Support for Graduate Worker Contract Implementation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Resolved<\/em><strong>,&nbsp;<\/strong>That the Faculty Senate recommends that the University of Maine administration, in coordination with the University of Maine System, provide the following as soon as possible but no later than the end of FY26:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A Comprehensive Implementation Guide:<\/strong>\u00a0A formal document detailing how units will meet the requirements of the contract. These requirements range from onboarding graduate students, laptop management, and how the financial aspects of graduate student positions, including the bonus and increased cost of stipends, benefits, and fringe, will be applied and covered across various funding sources (E&amp;G, grant-funded, MAFES, and other lines);\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Centralized Gap Funding Mechanism:<\/strong>\u00a0The establishment of a dedicated fund to cover the change between previously budgeted and new contract rates for existing multi-year grants that cannot be retroactively adjusted;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Transparency:<\/strong>\u00a0Clear communication on whether the University and\/or System will subsidize these increases at the college\/departmental level or if units and PIs are expected to absorb the new costs through headcount reductions or reallocated research funds; and\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Future Budget Guidance<\/strong>: Provide guidance and clarification on increases and rates that should be included in proposal budgets for upcoming fiscal years;\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contact Person(s) and Information Source to Support Transition:<\/strong>\u00a0Designate\u00a0a representative(s) to address faculty questions and provide resources, such as a website with F.A.Q., related to new coverage, requirements, the transition, and how to cover costs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umainesystem.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/s\/UM-FacultySenate\/IQBhA7_S-0w6Q5MYhfo7c1KvAR1FTmjFeofjgqeev1qaWWk?e=WZM6gI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The full text of SM 2607 with the preamble is available at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SM 2608<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submitted by<\/strong>: Program Creation and Reorganization Review Committee<br><strong>Title<\/strong>: Resolution to Endorse the Proposal to Eliminate the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
