The conference included researchers from across the region sharing studies on a variety of education topics, including curriculum and instruction; diversity and sociocultural perspectives; higher education; human development and learning; leadership, policy and educational reform; measurement, assessment, evaluation and research methods; professional development; teaching and teacher education; and technology in education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presentations by UMaine faculty and students included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership Esther Enright chaired a roundtable session on \u201cLeadership: Style, Actions, Policies as Influencers.\u201d Enright and Sarah Walton, UMaine assistant professor of sociology, presented their study \u201cBuilding Infrastructure Amidst Poverty: A Case Study of A Youth Justice Collaboration\u201d as part of the roundtable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) students in educational leadership Kelly O\u2019Brien-Weaver and Patricia Clark presented their doctoral research as part of a session on \u201cTackling Tough Problems Through Leadership and Policy.\u201d O\u2019Brien-Weaver\u2019s study was titled \u201cRural School Counseling Programs: Learning From Them, Not Just About Them.\u201d Clark\u2019s study was titled \u201cBreaking the Glass Ceiling: Empowering Women Aspiring to Leadership.\u201d Clark also chaired a practitioner roundtable session on \u201cSupporting Educators\u2019 Continuous Development,\u201d which included a presentation from Ed.D. student Nicole Benham titled \u201cUnifying Voices: The Role Professional Development Can Play in Effective Communication Between Educators.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alan Howen Chang, graduate research and teaching assistant and Ph.D. student in PreK-12 education with a concentration in literacy in the College of Education and Human Development, presented his research, \u201cExploring Teachers\u2019 Perspectives and Experiences with Teaching in a Bilingual Program to English Language Learners with Technology Aided Instruction and Intervention,\u201d as part of a session titled \u201cToday and Tomorrow \u2013 Exploring the Narratives and Perspectives of Classroom Teachers.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership Lindsey Kaiser presented her study \u201cSchool-Based Racial Equity Collaborations: White Principals Implementing an Active Anti-Racists Stance\u201d as part of a research paper session on \u201cVariables, Actions and Practices to Promote Equity and Justice.\u201d Kaiser also chaired a research paper session on \u201cTeacher Leadership, Collaboration, and Capacity Building Practices\u2019 Influence on School Success.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sue Sydnor, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, presented her doctoral research, \u201cStudent Perspectives on School Exclusion: A Narrative Inquiry,\u201d as part of a session on \u201cChallenging Oppression and Misperception Through Stories \u2013 Perspectives of Learners, Mothers, and Educators.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Associate Professor of Higher Education Leah Hakkola and UMaine Director of International Programs Orlina Boteva, a Ph.D. student in higher education, presented their study, \u201cExploring Secondary Trauma and Burnout Amongst Higher Education Professionals Engaged in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,\u201d as part of a session titled \u201cInspiration and Agony: The Work, Strife, and Resilience of Faculty in Higher Education.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Janet Corcoran, an Ed.D. student in educational leadership, chaired a roundtable session on \u201cHow Roles and Perceptions of Teachers and Leaders Influence Success.\u201d Corcoran presented her doctoral research, \u201cParaprofessional Training and Supervision: Policy and Perception,\u201d as part of the session. Two other UMaine Ed.D. students, Amy Sullivan and Rebekah Drysdale, presented their doctoral research as part of the session. Sullivan\u2019s presentation was titled \u201cA Case Study of Teacher Roles as Intermediaries For a Social-Emotional Learning Initiative.\u201d Drysdale\u2019s study was titled \u201cThe Special Education Administrator and Principal Connection: Exploring Key Relationship Components for Inclusion.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ed.D. students Allison Woodard and Suzanne Joyal presented as part of a session on \u201cWrestling with Issues in Curriculum and Instruction.\u201d Woodard\u2019s study was titled \u201cTeacher Decision Making About Reading Instruction.\u201d Joyal\u2019s presentation was titled \u201cCultivating Literacy Through Cultural Roots: A Multi-Tiered Arts-Based Storytelling Approach For First Graders in After-School
