Fairman said Maine\u2019s localized education policy means some school districts may not have the same access to resources as in other states. &#8220;It means that we\u2019re going to have a high level of variation in educational quality and outcomes across school districts,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangordailynews.com\/2025\/02\/05\/politics\/state-politics\/maine-lawmakers-frustrated-low-student-test-scores\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bangor Daily News<\/a> cited a 2024 report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/bpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com\/wpsites.maine.edu\/dist\/e\/97\/files\/2024\/07\/MEPRI-Report-on-Instructional-Programs-March-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maine Education Policy Research Institute<\/a> (MEPRI) co-authored by Senior Research Associate Patricia Lech, Fairman, and Suzanne Nadeau, an interdisciplinary doctoral student at UMaine and teaching assistant in the College of Education and Human Development. The BDN article was about Maine lawmakers\u2019 frustration with state education officials over Maine students\u2019 performance on the NAEP
