Allan speaks with KJZZ about what can be done to combat hazing

KJZZ 91.5 interviewed Elizabeth Allan, a professor of higher education at the University of Maine, about what can be done to combat hazing in colleges. Allan also is the executive director of StopHazing.org, a resource for hazing research and prevention. “We’ve also found that hazing is occurring in performing arts groups, marching bands for example, as well as honor societies and other kinds of clubs and organizations, even intramural sports,” Allan told the National Public Radio member station in Phoenix, Arizona. Her research found a stigma around the word “hazing,” leading to fewer students reporting incidents if asked directly, KJZZ reported. A 2008 UMaine study conducted by Allan and Mary Madden also was cited in an Epoch Times article and a Register-Guard editorial on hazing.
