Faculty Mentor: Scott Johnson

Professional Preparation:

  • Ph.D., Earth and Climate Sciences, University of Maine, USA (2018)
  • M.S., Geology, Korea University, South Korea
  • B.S., Earth and Environmental Sciences, Korea University, South Korea

Research Interests/Professional Specialties:

My research focuses on the structure, microstructure, mechanics, and rheology of exhumed earthquake faults and how different rock structures and microstructures influence the velocities of seismic waves. Recently, I am involved in developing numerical tools to analyse thermoelastic properties of heterogeneous and polycrystalline materials. I typically integrate microanalytical techniques (e.g., SEM, EBSD), numerical models, and field observations in my projects.

I also co-manage our SEM laboratory, which consists of a Tescan Vega II XMU SEM with secondary electron, backscattered electron, and cathodoluminescence detectors, EDAX EDS and EBSD systems, and a cryo-stage.
