Geodynamics

My research interests range from economic geology and geochemistry to metamorphic petrology and mineralogy. My projects involving silver-copper-lead ores in the Galena Mine in Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene mining district sought to understand mineralizing conditions through a broad approach involving analysis of fluid inclusions, stable isotopic composition, mineral composition and petrology of ore and gangue minerals. Current projects involve characterization of volcanogenic, copper-zinc-lead, massive sulfide deposits in Maine, and in particular, the effect of high ore-related sulfur and oxygen contents on the mineralogy of enclosing rocks. I manage the Electron Microprobe Laboratory, the X-ray Diffraction Laboratory, and the department’s Network and Computer facilities and have been active in collaborative research with Edward Grew and Dan Lux, all members of the School of Earth and Climate Sciences.
