Gordon Hamilton joins ERS teaching faculty

Gordon Hamilton, a long-time member of the Climate Change Institute and Associate Research Professor of Earth Sciences is now an Associate Professor of Earth Sciences, adding a formal teaching component to his position at the University.  He maintains his active role in the Climate Change Institute.

With the retirement of Dr. Terry Hughes from the Earth Science Department in January, 2010, a hole was created in our Climate Change Institute. Terry was a famed glaciologist, who taught many students at UMaine and developed ideas about marine-based ice sheets long before “global warming” was a popular phrase. We were fortunate that the University recognized the importance of glaciology and supported hiring a person to replace Terry’s teaching and research. Beginning September 1, Dr. Gordon Hamilton became the newest faculty member in the Earth Science Department. Gordon has a major field based component to his research, with particular expertise in remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems.
