UMaine Dining is committed to helping our customers meet their dietary needs with delicious choices. If you have dietary restrictions from religious practices, are following a vegan, vegetarian, or other diet, please contact our Registered Dietitian. She is a food and nutrition expert who provides counseling, guidance, and solutions to help you create or maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Vegetarian and Vegan Options

We are proud to continuously offer many vegetarian and vegan options all over campus. These include:

  • Non-dairy milk options
  • Plant proteins like soy, legumes, lentils, and seeds
  • Vegetable pasta

Religious or Cultural Diets

Dining Services offers a variety of items in dining halls appropriate for people following a religious lifestyle. The Student Heritage Alliance Council offers many multicultural student groups that may help new students navigate University life.

York Dining features one halal dietary option at dinner each night. If you observe cultural or religious dietary customs and would like more information, contact our Registered Dietitian for an appointment.

Menu cards make it easy to find important details about your food choices. The allergy icons on our menu cards are displayed based on recipe ingredients, which have been carefully screened by our Nutrition Support Manager. Labels follow the FARE Pilot Guidelines for Managing Food Allergies in Higher Education.

Allergy Aware at Hilltop Dining

Hilltop Dining features the Allergy Aware venue, offering menu items without the Big 8 allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, eggs, milk and wheat) or gluten at dinner. Even if you don’t have an allergy, you will find these items as delicious as the other options.
