Concentration Area: Nutrition Services and Professional Advocacy

The nutrition services and professional advocacy concentration area is designed to strengthen knowledge and competencies beyond the basics. Given the importance of public policy for nutrition and dietetics and the wide range of services dietitians provide, this area has been designed to integrate an understanding of the relationship between developing and delivering nutrition services and becoming advocates as nutrition and dietetic professionals for those services as well as the profession.

Interns will have hands-on experience working in teams to develop and implement a public policy advocacy project that is consistent with priority areas of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the needs within the state. They will gain experience about legislative and regulatory activities through working with professionals within the state, including the Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and individual preceptors involved in public policy activities.
