Dear Class of 2020 graduates:

We hope that you are doing well as we end a very difficult and transformational academic semester. We wish to convey our sincere appreciation to you for your patience and understanding regarding our inability to host a May Commencement ceremony in compliance with health and safety guidance. We share your disappointment that we could not come together for our traditional face-to-face celebratory event and the Commencement committee continues to plan for a traditional ceremony when it is safe to gather in large groups. But, we don’t want to wait until later to celebrate your great experiences and many accomplishments at UMaine, so we are pleased to announce the Class of 2020 Student Recognition Week for May 4–9, 2020.

To kick off the Student Recognition Week, we have a video trailer on the Commencement website. Daily at 10 a.m. during Recognition Week, you will be able to view congratulatory messages from Chancellor Dannel Malloy, UMS Board of Trustees Chair James Erwin, President Joan Ferrini-Mundy and a host of student leaders, administrators, faculty members, alumni and friends of the university. You will also be able to see your name displayed on the scoreboard at the Alfond Stadium with the names of the other Class of 2020 graduates.

Class of 2020 Recognition Week will highlight our Valedictorian and Salutatorian and other outstanding students, and recognize our dedicated and highly accomplished faculty members. In addition to celebrating your achievements and your success at reaching this milestone, you will be able to experience memories of your time at UMaine by visiting our Virtual Yearbook.

We are proud of your accomplishments and excited to celebrate with you next week. Best wishes on your future endeavors as you embark on the next phase of your journey and leave UMaine — the college of our hearts always!
