SUMMARY:Wicked Problems in Teaching: Cell phones and learning (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:Wicked Problems in Teaching: A Faculty Conversation Series\nComplex challenges. Practical strategies. Shared inquiry. \nSome teaching challenges are just plain wicked — they have no single cause\, no universal solution\, and they show up over and over in our classes. Think: student focus\, cell phones\, uneven preparedness\, pedagogical burnout\, and everything in between.\nThis series creates an honest\, grounded space for faculty to explore these wicked problems together. \nTo learn more about this 5-part series\, CLICK HERE! \nSESSION THREE: Cell phones and learning\nAre cell phones the problem or a symptom of something bigger? This conversation will examine what the research suggests about phones\, multitasking\, and learning\, alongside what faculty are experiencing in real time. We’ll compare approaches (from flexible to firm)\, explore the tradeoffs\, and generate inquiry questions about what policies actually support learning and classroom community. \nThursday\, March 12th | 3:00pm-4:30pm | Fernald Hall\, Room 102 \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:CoP: The SoTL Writing Circle (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:The SoTL Writing Circle is a new initiative designed to strengthen and expand faculty scholarship programming through a supportive\, semester-long writing community. Open to both new and experienced scholars of teaching and learning\, this program offers a structured space for faculty to develop\, draft\, and refine Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects—whether preparing an IRB for the first time or submitting a well-developed manuscript. \n \nThrough weekly sessions alternating between focused writing labs and collaborative learning opportunities on relevant topics\, participants will benefit from peer accountability partners\, guided reflection\, and dedicated writing time to support focused progress. As a group we will also plan for a capstone session after the semester for closure and final drafting. Whether new or experienced in SoTL\, this circle offers the structure\, community\, and momentum needed to move your project forward. \n\n\nWeekly on Fridays from 12:00pm – 1:00pm | Fernald Hall\, Room 102\n\nLEARN MORE & REGISTER HERE
