SUMMARY:Guest Speaker Dr. Sheryl Burgstahler: Creating Inclusive Learning Opportunities in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:CITL and Student Accessibility Services welcome Dr. Sheryl Burgstahler of the University of Washington to speak about inclusive learning. Discover how learning activities and support services can be designed in such a way that they are accessible to and inclusive of students with disabilities along with other marginalized groups. Dr. Burgstahler will present tips that can make this vision a reality and useful resources for further study. \n  \n \nDr. Sheryl Burgstahler founded and directs Accessible Technology Services—which includes the DO-IT (Disabilities\, Opportunities\, Internetworking\, and Technology) and the IT Accessibility Technology (ITAT) Teams—at the University of Washington. These dynamic groups promote (1) the development of self-determination skills\, use of mainstream and assistive technology\, and other interventions to support the success of students with disabilities in postsecondary education and careers and (2) the universal design (UD) of learning opportunities; facilities; websites\, media\, documents and other IT; and services to ensure that they are accessible to\, usable by\, and inclusive of individuals with disabilities. \n  \n  \nThis event will be virtual; all UMS employees are invited to attend. To request a reasonable accommodation call 207.581.2736. \nRegister for this event (opens in a new window) \n  \nThe University of Maine is an EEO/AA employer and does not discriminate on the grounds of race\, color\, religion\, sex\, sexual orientation\, transgender status\, gender expression\, national origin\, citizenship status\, age\, disability\, genetic information or veteran’s status in employment\, education\, and all other programs and activities. The following person has been designated to handle inquiries regarding non-discrimination policies: Director of Equal Opportunity\, 101 North Stevens Hall\, University of Maine\, Orono\, ME 04469-5754\, 207.581.1226\, TTY 711 (Maine Relay System).

SUMMARY:Helping students understand the feedback process
