DESCRIPTION:During this interactive session we will consider participants’ teaching and learning experiences during the past academic year and their future steps towards inclusive instruction. We will discuss: \n\nWho are the learners at the University of Maine?\nWhich instructional mindsets can help foster more equitable and welcoming classrooms?\nWhich teaching practices can have a positive impact in transforming learning environments at the university?\nWhat can change look like at the department level?\nWhat commitments can be made to advance inclusivity goals in the coming year?\n\nFollowing this 60 minute session there will be a 30-minute Q&A to provide an opportunity for informal conversations to occur with the speaker. \nThis virtual presentation is open to any interested members of the University of Maine System. \nRegister for this event (opens in a new window)\nBiography\nDr. Addy is the Associate Dean of Teaching & Learning at Lafayette College in Easton\, Pennsylvania where she is responsible for working with instructors across all divisions and ranks to develop and administer programming related to the teacher-scholar model from classroom teaching to the scholarship of teaching. As the Director of the Center for the Integration of Teaching\, Learning\, and Scholarship\, she develops and delivers programming on teaching and serves ex officio on the Teaching & Learning Committee. In addition to these roles\, she performs scholarship on teaching and learning and educational development\, primarily focusing on learner-centered practices including active learning and inclusive teaching. SUMMARY:Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Journal Club
DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning more about the research and evidence on effective teaching and improved learning? Want to have an energetic discussion about teaching over coffee with peers?  This in-person discussion group will explore different topics in education research\, research methods\, and interpretation of results.  Effort will be made to view research implications through an equity-minded lens. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Training \nZoom is a web conferencing software available to the entire University of Maine community. \nFaculty can use Zoom in their teaching to manage the synchronous components of their online courses\, hold virtual office hours\, and promote virtual student collaboration. This workshop will support users interested in using Zoom in their teaching. SUMMARY:Using Active Learning Classrooms to foster student collaboration and engagement
DESCRIPTION:In-person workshop \nCo-Facilitator: Meredith Kirkmann; Assistant Professor\, School of Engineering Technology \n  \nThis workshop focuses on fostering student collaboration and engagement in active learning classrooms (ALCs). ALCs are designed for students to work collaboratively\, move around the room and engage together in the learning process. The classrooms feature flexible furniture or group tables\,  shared whiteboards\, monitors\, and more. Participants will learn how to take advantage of these innovative spaces by engaging in activities\, sharing ideas with other participants\, and designing activities for your own classes.  \nThis workshop will be held in one of the active learning classrooms on campus.  Location will be determined based on registration number.  \nLight breakfast and refreshments served at 9:00 am.  \n  \nRegister here for this event (opens in a Google Form).
