Dr. Blomberg will also discuss a previous CFRU-funded project on the ecology of northern long-eared\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bats<\/span>\u00a0in Maine commercial forests.<\/p>\n<p>After this talk, adjunct faculty member\u00a0Michael Thompson (University of Maine School of Forest Resources), will speak on the role of forest certification in\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bat\u00a0<\/span>conservation. Landowners in Maine who are certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative or the Forest Stewardship Council must consider the impact of forest management on wildlife, including\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bats<\/span>, with additional emphasis placed on conserving habitats for rare, threatened, and endangered species.\u00a0This brief presentation will cover the obligations of certified landowners regarding conserving important wildlife habitats with more specific details regarding what to expect concerning\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bats<\/span>\u00a0during annual certification audits.<\/p>\n<p>There will be time for questions following their presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Wende Mahaney of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/mainefieldoffice\/Index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine Field Office<\/a>\u00a0expert on\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bats<\/span>, will introduce herself and be available to address questions as well.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0<span class=\"il\">webinar<\/span>\u00a0will be held on\u00a0<strong>November 14th, 2018 from 1:00 &#8211; 2:00 p.m<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>EST\u00a0<\/strong>using Zoom web conferencing software.
