Prospective members and guests,

Welcome to the Panhellenic Council

Whether you are interested in going Greek, already a Greek member, or just curious what we’re all about – welcome!

The Panhellenic community is all about helping its members grow as individuals while they simultaneously form lifelong bonds and friendships. Whether individuals join Greek life to make friends, to be pushed academically, to do more philanthropic and community service, or to just get more involved, I can almost guarantee they will experience all of that and more.

As undergraduate college students, our first priority is academics. Not only does every individual chapter have their own academic programming in place, but the Panhellenic community as a whole ensures that every sorority woman has the means necessary to reach their highest academic potential. Whether it is study hours, guest speakers, recognition and awards, our goal is to provide support and encouragement for collegiate women during their time at the University of Maine and to also prepare them for the future.

Leadership is a very beneficial skill that every sorority woman gains from being part of this community. The opportunities for personal growth and involvement are endless within Greek Life. There are countless committees and positions necessary to uphold each chapter as well as the Panhellenic community as a whole. The skills learned within Greek Life will carry over into life after college. You may be surprised to learn that many notable women such as Katie Couric, Condoleezza Rice, and Harper Lee are alumnae of sororities. Without a doubt, their experience in Greek Life had something to do with who they are today.

The bond formed within Greek Life is one that is incomparable to any other. Within each chapter, within the Panhellenic community, and within the UMaine campus community, a sense of belonging is formed. Greek women are part of something bigger than themselves and part of something that feels like home. Not only do Greek women benefit from this community, but we also love giving back. Our on-campus involvement often results in benefits to off-campus organizations as well. The events we participate in not only support great causes, but they also provide a fun way to gather all of the sororities together to enjoy time with sisters. Over the past year the eight sororities at the University of Maine have raised over $30,000 for philanthropies and completed over 10,000 hours of community service!

I am personally proud to say I am part of this community that supports and motivates others every single day. I’m thankful to be surrounded by women who not only allow me to be myself, but who also push me to achieve my greatest potential. Going Greek was one of the best decisions I have made in college, and I encourage others to consider Greek Life as well. You’ll be glad you did!

Sincerely,

Karlee Price

Panhellenic President
