{"id":495,"date":"2010-05-10T10:44:34","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T14:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.umaine.edu\/campusrecreation\/?page_id=495"},"modified":"2025-04-09T09:22:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T13:22:48","slug":"personal-trainer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/campusrecreation\/employment\/personal-trainer\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal Trainer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>University of Maine \u2013 Campus Recreation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Student Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Date Modified:<\/strong> 6\/22\/2023<br \/>\n<strong>Informal Title:<\/strong>\u00a0Personal Trainer for Fitness<br \/>\n<strong>Supervisor (<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Submit Application To<\/span>): <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:joshua.b.bridges@maine.edu\">Joshua Bridges<\/a>,\u00a0Assistant Director for Fitness<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities include providing personal training services to clientele of all fitness levels, including students, faculty, staff, and adult community members.\u00a0 Personal trainers are expected to adhere to teaching methods and modalities accepted as safe and appropriate by Campus Recreation and any industry professionals and governing bodies that Campus Recreation promotes.\u00a0 We expect our personal trainers to teach and model appropriate forms for exercise, and to conduct training sessions in a professional manner. \u00a0Personal trainers are responsible for facilitating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for participants and staff members at all times.\u00a0 Before employment begins they are required to achieve certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR, Standard First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.\u00a0 Other required trainings include Online Basic Safety Training and Information Security Awareness Training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct private personal training sessions for clients, following protocols as accepted and provided by the Department of Campus Recreation.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain complete client files and tracking sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain client confidentiality by adhering to Campus Recreation\u2019s confidentiality guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure clients\u2019 safety by performing health risk assessments including a fitness assessment<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate safe and correct form for exercises, modifying exercise intensity levels, and appropriately warming up \/ cooling down.<\/li>\n<li>Model, promote, and consistently enforce Campus Recreation policies.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in Campus Recreation and fitness-related special events and programs.<\/li>\n<li>Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain all certifications.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain written and oral communication with other fitness staff members, supervisors, and administrative staff.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for staff and participants.<\/li>\n<li>Work Fitness Assistant shifts.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in other opportunities such as WOW and WorkFit.<\/li>\n<li>Attend staff meetings and trainings.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a Personal Trainer, you are expected to be friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming to participants.\u00a0 You are expected to outline safe and appropriate fitness plans for client\u2019s fitness level, interest and needs. We expect all employees to have a positive attitude, show up for work on time, dress professionally, and perform all assigned duties in a professional manner. Over the course of the week we will participate in group ex classes, shadow actual clients and discuss topics in anatomy and physiology, training principles, class\/session design and implementation, effectively using equipment and class formats, and above all, techniques for motivation and leadership.\u00a0\u00a0The class culminates in an opportunity to interview for a position at Campus Rec and to potentially join our fitness student staff.<\/p>\n<p>The course is geared toward both group exercise and personal training but you do not have to be interested in interviewing or working in both areas to find value in the technical information.<\/p>\n<p>*If you are very interested but would have to miss a portion of the class due to academic conflicts, please contact Cait Caserta (caitlin.caserta@maine.edu) and accommodations may be offered.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/engagedblackbear\/\">Health &amp; Community Level 1 badge<\/a> approved course<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Type: \u2013 Pay Level V:<\/strong> $14.90<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Work Study \/ Work Merit:\u00a0<\/strong>Work Study \u2013 Optional<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time Commitment:<\/strong>\u00a0Minimum 3 hours per week.
