{"id":493,"date":"2010-05-10T10:43:27","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T14:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.umaine.edu\/campusrecreation\/?page_id=493"},"modified":"2016-07-12T07:59:09","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T11:59:09","slug":"instructor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/campusrecreation\/employment\/instructor\/","title":{"rendered":"Instructor for Session-Based Classes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>University of Maine \u2013 Campus Recreation<br \/>\nStudent Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>University Job Classification:<\/strong>\u00a0Student Athletic\/Recreation Assistant VI<br \/>\n<strong>Date Modified:<\/strong>\u00a012\/16\/2015<br \/>\n<strong>Informal Title:<\/strong>\u00a0Instructor for Instructional Classes (Dance, Martial Arts, &amp; Others)<br \/>\n<strong>Supervisor:<\/strong>\u00a0Assistant Director for Fitness<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities include providing safe, appropriate class instruction for participants of all ages and fitness levels, including students, faculty, staff, and community members.\u00a0 Instructors are expected to adhere to teaching methods and modalities accepted as safe and appropriate by Campus Recreation and industry professionals\/ governing bodies that Campus Recreation promotes.\u00a0 We expect our instructors to teach and model appropriate forms of their specific skills set, and to conduct classes in a professional manner.\u00a0 They are responsible for facilitating a fun, safe and welcoming environment for participants and staff members at all times.\u00a0 Before employment begins they are required to achieve certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR, Standard First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.\u00a0 Other required trainings include Online Basic Safety Training and Information Security Awareness Training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Welcome participants to class, take attendance, conduct participant counts and other administrative tasks related to the program.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the safety of class participants through performing heart rate assessments, demonstrating safe and correct form for proper mechanics, modify skills when necessary, and appropriately warming up \/ cooling down.<\/li>\n<li>Perform setup \/ take down for classes.<\/li>\n<li>Model, promote, and consistently enforce policies for Campus Recreation.<\/li>\n<li>Provide positive public relations, program promotion and policy education to participants pertaining to Campus Recreation.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain all certifications.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain written and oral communications with other fitness staff, supervisors, and administrative staff.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for staff and participants.<\/li>\n<li>Attend staff meetings and trainings.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As an instructional\/session based class instructor, you are expected to be friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming to participants.\u00a0 You are expected to outline safe and appropriate lesson plans for participants\u2019 fitness level, interest and needs. \u00a0We expect instructors to maintain an appropriate level of fitness for the class being taught.\u00a0 We expect all employees to have a positive attitude, show up for work on time, dress professionally, and perform all assigned duties in a professional manner.
