2020 Recreation Movement - Designed for UMaine Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni!
During a time when social distancing is the norm, let’s come together digitally though fitness. The 2020 Recreation Movement allows UMaine students, faculty, staff, and alumni to participate in online workout classes from 40+ different colleges and universities across the country. Digital fitness and recreation are great ways to have people connect, engage and stay healthy during these uncertain times. Our non-UMaine-affiliated members may still participate in our own online offerings, which can be found below! Be sure to also check the Additional Resources section, as there are many professional fitness companies offering free access for a few months.

You can live well from anywhere! During this time of remote classes, Campus Recreation is sharing programs and resources for exercise, meditation, self-reflection, outdoor adventure and more – wherever you are. DAILY Self-Directed Workouts: These are general fitness workouts you can do on your own at home, that can easily be scaled up or down as needed. They’re sure to get you up and moving!
MON/WED Senior/Low Impact workouts: These workouts are geared towards seniors or anyone who needs a low impact option. Workouts are posted twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.
TU/TH Family Workouts: These workouts are designed to have families getting active together. With a good mix of traditional exercises and fun games and activities these are sure to engage the whole family! Workouts are posted twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

FRI – Fitness Challenge Fridays: Every Friday we’ll post a fitness challenge… everyone is encouraged to participate with their best effort!
Online Live Group Ex Classes: Check our Group Ex Schedule (at right) for a list of classes. Each appointment has a unique link to the Zoom class! You can even add them to your own calendar so you don’t forget to get moving.

Water Safety Wednesday: Not able to practice for swim lessons due to closures and social distancing? Want to keep up the awesome progress you’ve made? Join our swim instructors every Wednesday for some dry-land drills you can practice from home! NO POOL NEEDED! Let’s connect! Tag us in a video of you practicing these drills, or send a video message to your favorite swim instructor.
First Aid Friday: Safety is our number one priority. Join us every Friday for some tips and tricks on how to stay prepared and respond to injuries. (Please note these videos are not equivalent to certification). Let’s connect! Tag us in your creation of any of the content we post!
Intramural Sports is offering Super Smash Bros, Rocket League and Call of Duty Modern Warfare leagues. Compete for an Intramural Sports champion t-shirt. UMaine Students, Faculty, and Staff are all eligible! Click here to register on IM Leagues.
Campus Recreation will be starting this 4-week challenge during the week of April 6 on Facebook, click here for details. Each week we will give out Intramural Championship T Shirts to the individuals who completes their run or walk in the time closest to their predicted time. We will also be awarding T Shirts anyone who completes at least 4 of these challenges. Obviously, this is a fun competition and is based on the honor system. There is no cost to this virtual run/walk.
Maine Bound Anywhere
Maine Bound is offering daily suggestions for getting outside in a safe, socially distant way. We are also asking participants to share what they’ve been up to with us, as well as creating a participant driven weekly newsletter. Also sharing other resources for ways to get your outside fix, even from inside the house.
“Best of No Man’s Land 2015-Present”
Maine Bound will be hosting a Best of NML event on April 16-17. On the 16th, we’ll publish the link and password. It will be for 12 hours only. Check our Facebook page (@mainebound) and Instagram (@maineboundadventurecenter) for more details. Scroll down to the “Additional Resources: Outdoors” section for a special NML event from April 9-12! Matrix Community Phone App
From Matrix, our fitness equipment supplier: We hope you are all safe and healthy. During this difficult time, we wanted to provide you FREE workouts for your members, staff, and students at UMaine. Please Matrix Community App to download our phone app. This application will provide you workouts from our Master Trainers at no cost.
Les Mills on Demand
This platform is free to use. Choose from eight categories of workouts, no subscription required at this time. These workouts will be available during the entirety of the covid-19 situation.
Down Dog App
Down Dog is an app that provides yoga workouts at all levels. Down Dog is offering free access to workouts for students and teachers through July 1st when you sign up with your .edu email address.
Peloton has made their Peloton App free for 90 days. Check out workouts for cycling, running, yoga, outdoors, strength and more.

Staying Calm and Well in the Midst of the COVID-19 Storm – WEBINAR SERIES
Ohio State University and NIRSA
Ohio State University Chief Wellness Officer Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, EBP-C, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN and her Buckeye Wellness team, the College of Nursing, Your Plan for Health, the Ohio State Health Plan, Ohio State Employee Assistance Program and Student Life have teamed up to create and offer “Staying Calm and Well in the Midst of the COVID-19 Storm” to cope with and stay well during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This eight-week online series, starting Wednesday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m. is open to all and will equip you to build important knowledge and skills to sustain well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each session will be delivered by expert faculty and followed with a skills building activity that encourages participants to put into practice what they are learning from the content presented.
Practical evidence-based tactics and resources will be provided in each session. The skills learned should build participant strengths to last well beyond the pandemic.
