June 2: Rec Center Returns to Near-Normal Operations

We will be CLOSED on Tuesday June 1 between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. so that we can return the facility to close-to-normal operations now that social distancing requirements and capacity limits have been lifted.

Face coverings are still required in all UMaine buildings as directed by The University of Maine system. Therefore they will still be required in the Rec Center, even on the pool deck and in locker rooms, but may be removed while a member is in the pool/spa or shower.

Cleaning protocols will continue, and plexiglass shields will remain in place on the counters. We’ll be moving all the equipment back to the weight rooms and cardio area, reopening the Basketball and Racquetball courts, and reopening staircases to 2-way traffic. Personal Training services and In-Person Fitness Programs have resumed on a limited basis.

Locker rooms are now open. Face coverings will be required unless a member is in the pool/spa or shower. New locker rentals will not occur until we have had a chance to contact every member to ensure they do not wish to keep their locker. Locker rentals that were in effect on the day we closed the locker room will be extended by the entire time they were inaccessible, plus another 3 months.

Face coverings will be required on the pool deck but may be removed while a member is in the pool/spa or deck shower. Since swimmers are allowed to remove their masks while they are in the pool, the pool time slot enrollment requirement will remain, but the pool will have increased capacity limit of 26 total (4 lane swimmers and 22 leisure area / vortex area swimmers). The spa will reopen for use only by those who are enrolled in a pool-area time slot, with one “family unit” (ie, individuals who live in the same household) permitted at a time, with a 10-minute maximum time for adults and 5-minute maximum time for children. The sauna, for now, will remain closed.

For now, we will still not be allowing day pass users, birthday parties, large facility rentals, or group use. Swim lessons have not resumed.

Welcome back, UMaine Community. Welcome back!
