August 14: “Face Covering” – What Does That Mean?

UMaine released new guidance on August 10, 2020. Starting on Monday, August 24, 2020, the Rec Center and Maine Bound will be required to enforce users wear a UMaine-approved face covering at all times while in our facilities.

These are generally made of multiple layers of cloth, cover the nose, mouth, and chin, and are secured either with ear loops or with ties behind the head. General-use “paper” medical-style masks, and commercially-available dust masks, are also acceptable.

Of particular note, face shields, neck gaiters AKA Buffs, and bandannas are not acceptable. We will have disposable face coverings to offer anyone who does not have an acceptable face covering.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our community safe!
