Light refreshments will be served. \nA Sense of Wonder celebrates the legacy of three emeritus professors in Painting: Vincent Hartgen\, Michael Lewis\, and James Linehan. These educators shaped the Art Department and collectively provided nearly 130 years of teaching and administrative work at the University of Maine. The exhibition features landscape paintings spanning their careers. It includes key works\, as well as lesser-known paintings\, some of which are on view for the first time. \nA Sense of Wonder is made possible by Jane and Kelly Littlefield and donors to the Littlefield Gallery Sculptor-in-Residence Fund.

SUMMARY:Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom
DESCRIPTION:The first offering of the School of Performing Arts Division of Theatre and Dance 2026-2027 theatre season is “Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom\,” written by Jennifer Haley. \nIn a suburban subdivision with identical houses\, parents find their teenagers addicted to an online horror video game. The game setting? A subdivision with identical houses. The goal? Smash through an army of zombies to escape the neighborhood for good. But as the line blurs between virtual and reality\, both parents and players realize that fear has a life of its own. \n“Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom” is directed by assistant professor of theatre D Granke. The show will run October 17-26 in Hauck Auditorium. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online.

SUMMARY:Libra Lecture Series - The Tau of Ramanujan
DESCRIPTION:Δ(z) = q ∏ (1−qn)24 = ∑ τ(n)qn. The integer sequence τ(n)=1\, −24\, 252\, −1472\, 4830\, … defined by that equation was discovered and studied by the great Indian mathematician Ramanujan more than 100 years ago. These numbers — the values of the Ramanujan tau-function — have been the guiding force for several themes in number theory and still pose simple\, open problems today. This talk\, delivered by visiting Libra Professor Eknath Ghate\, will be a relaxed introduction to these numbers. \nVisiting Libra Professor Eknath Ghate is a Senior Professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai\, India. Professor Ghate has spent his career chasing the deep and still-mysterious links between modular forms and Galois representations. In 2013 he received the Bhatnagar Prize\, India’s highest science honor. \nThis event will take place in Hill Auditorium in Barrows Hall. It is free and open to the public.
