These educators shaped the Art Department and collectively provided nearly 130 years of teaching and administrative work at the University of Maine. The exhibition features landscape paintings spanning their careers. It includes key works\, as well as lesser-known paintings\, some of which are on view for the first time. A publication including essays and reproductions will be available in the gallery. \nA Sense of Wonder is made possible by Jane and Kelly Littlefield and donors to the Littlefield Gallery Sculptor-in-Residence Fund.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s Maine Heritage Lecture\, one of the signature annual events from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences\, is set to take place on October 22 at 3:00 PM in the Bodwell Lounge of the Collins Center for the Arts. \nThis year’s speaker is Gretchen Faulkner\, director of the Hudson Museum\, located in the CCA. She has been with the Hudson Museum since 1986 and became director in 2002. She oversaw the redesign of the Hudson Museum in 2009\, following the renovation of the Maine Center for the Arts\, now the Collins Center for the Art. She develops exhibits and programs that are grounded in the museum’s collections\, especially the museum’s Wabanaki holdings.

DESCRIPTION:Hollie Adams is the author of the novel Things You’ve Inherited from Your Mother\, the short story collection Dear Humans\, and the poetry collection Beckoning. DESCRIPTION:Mary Jean “MJ” Sedlock began working at UMaine in the fall of 2015. She teaches classes in Stagecraft\, Drafting\, Advanced Stagecraft\, Technical Direction\, and Stage Management. She also serves as the Production Manager and Technical Director for the Division of Theatre/Dance\, managing all areas of production for all shows produced by the Division. The Cyrus Pavilion Theatre is a 89-seat\, round theater that has been the “spiritual home” of the Maine Masque since 1979. DESCRIPTION:Host: University of Maine Fogler Library \nLocation: Fogler Library Special Collections | Free event \nSpecial Collections\, which is located on the third floor of Fogler Library will host a Research Open House on Friday\, October 23\, from 2:00-3:30PM\, with brief remarks at 2:30PM. \nFogler Library Special Collections archivists Matthew Revitt and Herbert Dittersdorf will showcase unique archival material that University of Maine faculty and students have used in their research and classes to create and share new historical knowledge. The highlighted research projects include rare 17th-century books used by Professor Joel Anderson’s undergraduate capstone course for the History major—such as a project on 17th-century English reading habits. History doctoral candidate Susan Dickson-Smith’s research on Black churches in Maine and New Brunswick. Rare Wabanaki primary sources and tribal newsletters examined in Professor Micah Pawling’s courses. The open house will share items from the O’Brien Collection of African History and Culture that informed Professor Mary Freeman’s recently published book as well as her work with students on the history of abolition. Finally\, Professor Liam Riordan and his undergraduates will share their public history research using material from Special Collections about the University of Maine\, the Bangor-Orono region\, and the commemorations of 1876 and 1976. \n*Also\, come and get a selfie with old Bananas T.
