Please submit your notes of gratitude online by March 21\, 2025. \nGratitude note authors and recipients will be invited to a reception in their honor during Maine Impact Week. To ensure a positive experience\, notes will be screened before delivery. \nThe Black Bears Gratitude Project is part of Maine Impact Week\, an annual showcase of UMaine’s impact on the state and beyond\, and hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School.

SUMMARY:Polaris: Mystery of the Polar Night
DESCRIPTION:A traveling penguin from the South Pole and a funny polar bear from the North pole meet on arctic sea ice. They become friends observing the night sky together and wondering why night is so long at the poles of the Earth. This mystery leads them on a scientific adventure by building an improvised spaceship to travel around the Earth to learn about seasons\, visit Mars and Saturn to learn about ice in the solar system and how planets have similarities and differences which make them unique. \n  \n\n  \nTickets for planetarium programs are $7 for Adults\, $6 for UMaine Students/Veterans/Senior Citizens\, and $5 for children under 12. SUMMARY:Compost 101: Build Your First Pile
DESCRIPTION:University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering an introduction to home composting webinar from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday\, March 11 over Zoom. \nIn this workshop participants will learn the science behind compost formation\, how to “feed” your compost pile\, and how to use finished compost in the garden. Participants will also consider different styles of home composting\, from traditional wooden bins to nimble tumblers. This workshop will help interested home composter find a system that’s right for them\, whether they have a yard or a small back porch. Nick Rowley\, Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture Professional with UMaine Cooperative Extension\, will lead the workshop\, along with Carrick Gambell\, Extension’s Urban Agriculture Professional. \nCost of the workshop is on a sliding scale from $0-$15.
