2018-2019 Scholarship Information

The Maine Business School has several undergraduate scholarships to award every academic year.  Current students with a 3.0 accumulative grade point average and incoming first-year students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships.  We have one general application form that will cover all the applications.

Current students are notified through the @maine.edu email when the new application is available.  Incoming students should download the application below from this website.

Completed applications and the one-page personal statement that includes your short and long term goals, any special circumstances, and/or achievements illuminating your academic commitment and qualifications should be sent to the MBSScholarship@maine.edu email. 

Students can also drop the application and statement off in DPC 213 or mail it to:

Scholarship Timeline

  • We ask that students apply for the scholarships during the spring semester each year. 
  • Applications and personal statements are due by the 4:30 p.m. on the last day of spring classes, which is May 4th, 2018.
  • In May, the list of applicants will be sent to the Student Financial Aid Office to verify which students have financial need.
  • In Mid July, students are notified if they have or have not received a scholarship.


Available Scholarships

Willis HRH Northern New England Scholarship
Established in 1995 by the Dunlap Corporation (now Willis HRH Northern New England)

Criteria: Academic merit and financial need.

George V. Nauman Scholarship 
Established in 1985 by Isabel H. Nauman

Criteria: Academic merit and financial need.

Higher Education Assistance Fund
Awarded annually in November by the Maine Banker’s Association

Amount: One award of ~$1,000

Criteria: Full-time business major in sophomore, junior or senior year; Maine high school graduate; financial need; good academic standing; and preference to Maine resident.

Joseph S. Keating, Sr. ’12 Scholarship
Established in 2003 in memory of Joseph S. Keating, Sr. ’12

Criteria: Any student majoring in the field of Business Administration.

Melvin T. McClure Scholarship
Established in 1995 in honor of Melvin T. McClure ’57, Ph.D.

Criteria: Studying accounting and academic merit.

G. Pierce Webber Maine Business School Fund
Established in 1990 with a gift from G. Pierce Webber

Criteria: None

James C. Otis Scholarship
Established in 1997 by James C. Otis ’69

Criteria: Pursue career in accounting, esp. public accounting; members of Theta Chi Fraternity; members of other Greek fraternities and sororities.

Ronald Burnham ’62 Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 with a gift from Nicholas P. Heyman ’78 in memory of his wife’s uncle

Criteria:  First-year Maine Business School student with demonstrated leadership experience.  The student(s) selected will engage in special leadership opportunities within the Maine Business School.

Joseph F. Herbert Maine Business School Scholarship
Established in 2006 with a gift from Joe Herbert ‘58

Criteria:  First-year student; must be in the top 20% of their high school class, have an ACT overall point score of at least 26 or a SAT combined score of at least 1100; exhibit leadership potential and have work experience or a record of extracurricular or community activities.  Students may continue to receive the scholarship after their first year if they have a grade point average of 3.0 or greater.


MiddleOak Scholarship
Established in 1986 with a gift from the Middlesex Mutual Assurance Company, now MiddleOak

Amount: Up to three awards of $1,500 to third-year students. Students may be eligible to renew the award in the fourth year.

Criteria: Third-year business major; preferences is given to a student with an interest in pursuing a career in insurance; U.S. citizen and Maine resident; academic merit; and financial need.

Bonello Family Scholarship
Established in 2013 with a gift from John L. Bonello ’65

Criteria: Undergraduate or graduate student at the Maine Business School.

Ralph and Hazel Gould Scholarships
Established in 1994 by Ralph and Hazel Gould

Criteria: Graduate of a Maine high school (preference given to graduates of Hebron Academy or Edward Little High School) and financial need.

Carlton E. Crossland Scholarship
Established in memory of Carlton E. Crossland ’43

Criteria: Academic merit; financial need; preference given to Orono High School graduates if they meet academic and financial requirements.

Clark Noyes Liscomb ’60 Prize Fund
Established in 2003 with a gift from Laureen Baldwin Liscomb in honor of Clark Noyes Liscomb ’60

Criteria: Awards made to MBS juniors who are focusing on International Commerce; and academic merit.

Business Administration Scholarship Fund

Criteria: Based on academic achievement, leadership participation and financial need; awards are made to both incoming first-year students and upper level undergraduates.

Garrett E. and Marsha E. Cole Scholarship
Established in 2007 with a gift from Garret E. ‘72 and Marsha E. Cole ‘73

Criteria:  Business, Finance or Accounting major; financial need, good citizenship, active in one or more activities or organizations and have an interested in a career in business.
