The Accounting MBA

Designed to equip graduates with in-depth accounting principles and skill sets for management, small business ownership, startup companies, corporations, governmental agencies, analyst positions, NGOs, nonprofits, or accounting related positions.

The Accounting MBA is a 30 credit hour program after all foundation prerequisites are fulfilled. The program is offered in a blended format, with a combination of live offerings and online/distance classes for convenience and flexibility. All of the accounting courses are offered live on campus. All of the MBA core courses will be available online as of fall 2016; about half will be offered live on campus.

MBA Required Core Classes (18 credit hours): Take all of the following:

BUA 601 – Statistical Analysis and Modeling for Organizational Operations
BUA 609 – Financial Statement Analysis
BUA 620 – Law, Business and Society
BUA 626 – Management of Contemporary Organizations
BUA 651 – Financial Management
BUA 649 – Management Policy

Plus, choose four accounting courses (12 credit hours):
BUA 406 – Advanced Managerial Accounting
BUA 409 – Accounting for Governmental and NPOs Students cannot use these courses toward their graduate program of study if they applied them to their undergraduate program of study.

BUA 507 – Advanced Accounting
BUA 515 – Tax Planning for Small Business Owners
BUA 608 – Accounting Theory & International Accounting
BUA 697 – Field Experience in Accounting

Prerequisites:
Students are required to have a minimum of a B- in each prerequisite course. Completion of the following UMaine courses or equivalencies at an accredited college/university:

  • BUA 201 Financial Accounting
  • BUA 202 Managerial Accounting
  • BUA 270 Marketing
  • BUA 325 Management
  • BUA 350 Finance
  • STS 215 Statistics
  • ECO 120 Microeconomics
  • ECO 121 Macroeconomics ECO 410 (online) may substitute for ECO 120/ECO 121

Additionally, for the Accounting MBA, students must have the following UMaine or equivalent prerequisites:

  • BUA 301 Intermediate Accounting 1
  • BUA 302 Intermediate Accounting 2
  • BUA 305 Cost Accounting
  • BUA 310 Auditing
  • BUA 312 Federal Taxation of Individuals

Students that do not have the Accounting prerequisites may want to complete the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting in Accounting
