Maine Business School Rankings and Recognition

  • Fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International) since 1974. Less than 5% of business schools worldwide have earned this distinction and only 25% within the United States. Latest reaccreditation was in January 2016.
  • Ranked by US News & World Report in 2013 among the nation’s top 160 undergraduate business programs.
  • Eduniversal ranked us among the “excellent” business school in a world-wide ranking. Only 132 schools from the United States were included.
  • Over the past 25 years, the Maine Business School has educated more than 5,500 people. These (mostly) young men and women have mastered knowledge in accounting, finance, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, international business, and management information systems, and many of them have gone on to successful careers in business.
  • Almost 95% of our 2016 graduates reported finding full time employment within six months of graduation (the highest percentage at UMaine), with another 2% attending graduate school.
  • About 58% of our graduates stay in Maine. The others find careers across the United States and abroad.
  • In recent years the median starting salary of graduates was $46,750 ($45,000 for those who found work in Maine, and $50,000 for those who went out of state), demonstrating that companies value the education our graduates obtain.
  • The Maine Business School is the home of the Gerard S. Cassidy ’80 Capital Markets Training Laboratory. It was dedicated in September 2014 and was made possible through the generous gifts of Mr. Cassidy and other donors. This facility features 9 Bloomberg terminals that offer access to the same information in real time as is used by the firms on Wall Street. It is used to teach classes on financial information, provides opportunity to students to become Bloomberg-certified, and is the home of the Student Portfolio Investment Club (SPIFFY).
  • The Maine Business School has a number of experts with national and worldwide recognition on its faculty. For example, Dr. John F. Mahon, Professor of Management and Murphy Chair, is a leading scholar of corporate social responsibility who has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching, research, and service. Recently he was recognized by the Aspen Institute as a faculty pioneer for his innovative teaching of organizational responses to climate change.
  • MBS faculty are active researchers: they have published more than 100 articles in the last five years, many in prestigious scientific journals. Their research has been cited about 10,000 times in the scholarly literature.
  • Dr. John F Mahon was selected as the 2017 Distinguished Maine Professor, UMaine’s highest faculty honor indicating the utmost commitment to the areas of teaching, research, and service.

  • The Student Portfolio Investment Fund (SPIFFY) actively manages $3.05 million of the University of Maine Foundation money and is often ranked among the top such clubs in the country.
