5-Year MBA Program
This program provides UMaine business and non-business degree majors the opportunity to complete the MBA program in one academic year after receiving a bachelor’s degree. Students take a specific set of MBA prerequisites during their undergraduate program, apply to the MBA program their junior year, and can take up to two graduate MBA classes their senior year if qualified. The students then complete the MBA program the following year. The 5-year plan is an aggressive schedule when combined with the student’s major program requirements. Students must achieve a B- or better in all MBA prerequisite courses. Students are required to complete, before their senior year, the following courses: BUA 201, BUA 202, ECO 120, ECO 121, and at least one of the following: BUA 270, BUA 350, BUA 325. The student should also have a statistics course, either one required in their discipline or STS 215 or STS 232.
Students must first file a declaration of intent form (below), be endorsed by his/her current faculty advisor, and then schedule an appointment with the MBA Director. Candidates are required to maintain academic good standing (cumulative GPA 3.2) in their baccalaureate program. Students should work closely with the MBA Director and their current undergraduate academic advisor and plan accordingly. Candidates for MBA matriculation should formally apply to the Graduate School in their late junior year and meet all other admission requirements, including taking the GMAT.
Important: In the senior year of the student’s undergraduate program, providing the student is in academic good standing with his/her business prerequisites, maintained a 3.2 GPA, has formally applied to the MBA program and has been provisionally accepted to the MBA, the student may enroll in up to two MBA courses (provided the course prerequisites are met). Graduate courses do not substitute for undergraduate courses in the student’s current program of study to satisfy credit hours needed to earn the bachelor’s degree. Once matriculated into the MBA program, students without all MBA prerequisites can take online tutorials for what is lacking.
